Voltigeur.

Thanks, Jo. We obviously have different editions. Mine is plastic comb bound, 7" x 8.5". Page 24 is 1st Hussars and under the Corps section, pp. 1 - 6, there is nothing about CMSC. The poor old Veterinarians don't even get a mention! I will look further for a copy of your edition and keep this edition as a curio.

By the way, who is / was "C.H. Stewart" and why should we take his word? He offers no authority for his text in the edition I have.

Mike

Charles Stewart was one of the big Canadian badge collectors from the 60's and I think, through the 90's? He put together a couple of collector's references, the one on the lineages and one on the CEF. His sources are cited in the copy that I have, and it is a list of some 27 different ones, including the main one, Militia GO's from 1854 until 1940. The version I have is the 1982 revised edition. (As a note, I believe that Gene Ursual purchased the Stewart collection or significant portions of it recently. He was selling badges from it a couple of years ago IIRC.)
Mike I think that you have one of the earlier versions. There were some significant changes in the revision. There was also an addendum put together for the revised edition, but the changes were minor.

I also have the 1982 edition. Does anyone have a copy of the addendum that can be scanned and shared?

Oh dear!!! I finally got to look at the actual title today and everyone can breathe easy again: there is no previously unrecorded purple sport out there. It is a beautiful blue, with white letters. The reason I thought it was purple was that, having no clear recollection of the actual object from a couple of years ago, I was looking at a colour photocopy and clearly the copier has perverted the colour.

I should know better at my age than to rely on anything other than primary sources - in this case, the object itself. I stand chastened.

I could try and get the picture I took onto this thread if people want it. Don't hold your collective breaths though as I am not exactly computer literate.
