To add some detail as to why its wrong:

The Regular Battalions' antededence came from the 60th (King's Royal Rifle Corps) Regiment of Foot. It had 4 Regular battalions upto the start of WW1.

The KRRC was not regionally lined in the same way as many County Bns but did have militia bns. These were based on a shared Rifle Regt heritage. They were:

Huntingdonshire Rifles Militia
Royal Flint Rifles Militia
2nd Royal Rifle Regiment of Middlesex Militia
Carlow Rifles Militia
North Cork Rifles Militia

In addition pre 1908 there were various Volunteer Battalions:

3rd City of London RVC
1st Middlesex RVC (Victoria Rifles)
2nd Middlesex RVC (South Middlesex)
4th Middlesex RVC (West London)
6th Middlesex RVC (St George's)
12th Middlesex RVC (Civil Service)
13th Middlesex RVC (Queen's Westminsters)
25th Middlesex (Bank of England) RVC
1888: 26th Middlesex (Cyclist) RVC

In 1908 the VB Bns became Battalions within the London Regiment. There were no post 1908 KRRC TF Bns.

As all of the militia bns and the VB Bns listed above had their own histories and badges, they had no requirement for the blank scroll KRRC-type badge being sold on ebay. Whilst one can never prove a 'never exisited', I remain confident that the design was never required/worn/made.

The fact that the badge being sold has a lack of voiding and the style of slider screams 'fantasy' to me.

Alan,

Very well documented, if more collectors looked at this forum the richer they would be . . !

Just a thought could it be a cadet or School Battalion affiliated to the KRRC they of course would have no battle honours? Cracking lineage by the way!

Good post Alan. Just to add though, militia badges do exist in both QVC and KC the latter with and without the South Africa honour. They look nothing like the one in the link though.

Hello David

Why not list it on ebay as a fake/fantasy item and see what happens.

The bidders on the costly badge that just finished might be interested, to say the least!

Roger

Not offered as "evidence" but purely for interest - as I recall the Gale & Polden "History & Tradition" card for KRRC shows a line illustration of the Kings Crown KRRC badge without battle honours........

And in the absence of such a badge the fakers have filled the demand.

The series is generally considered to be fairly accurate in its portrayal of the uniforms concerned due to the artists liaising with adjies, RSMs & the like.
It be that the cap badge is shown without battle honours because it would be impractical to cram them on, & battle honours are printed on the card next to the badge anyway.
I don't know if I've got Border Regiment & Rifle Brigade cards, they would pose the same problem for the artist when it comes to battle honours on the badges.
