Smile Victorian Cloth Show & Tell..!

Greetings Lads & Lasses,

This may be a pretty short thread (but I hope not) but we have had some wonderful badge specific threads where collectors have been willing to share individual examples from their collections, so I hope that will be the case here.

I was very fortunate recently to get this lovely Victorian (1880's) bullion cloth badge to the Shropshire (48th) Rifle Volunteers (see attached). I love the quality of early cloth insignia like this but I'm equally astonished that such early and potentially fragile examples have survived.

If anyone is interested (?) I would find it most enjoyable to see what other early cloth patches/badges are out there. Anything is welcome as long as it's early and cloth.

So dig through your collections and let's have a little show and tell on some of these beautiful rare pieces. This 48th is my only decent example to get the ball rolling.

Cheers, Roy.

All wonderful pieces. The workmanship is akin to artistry. Have always had a soft spot for embroidered badges and of course bullion. I could easily make it a focus albeit a narrow one as availability of good pieces such as shown above are limited.

Thanks Brian! and a Middlesexy too

Lovely bits of cloth, I don't have any, all my cloth is way too modern apart from my WW1 Bombing Officers badge, sad

Your 34th is great, obviously for a Grenadier Company Officer.

Unfortunately thats a standard RE grenade arm badge (despite not having 9 flames) and not a WW1 badge.

I have never seen a genuine WW1 Bombing Officers badge, plenty of Red Flamed bombers and All blue grenade mortar Bombers badges.

regards
