Neat wing. The fellow served with the RAF?

The wing is a standard Canadian made Canadian pattern wing although the tip of the wing is slightly upturned.

Not my area, but the wording of the identity disc bearing the word OFFICER seems unusual. And as an Air Gunner should there not be an Air Crew Europe star in the group? Mike

Deployed after D-Day so not entitled to Aircrew Europe Star.

Rob, did he serve with an RAF squadron? A huge number of RCAF personnel were assigned to RAF squadrons.

Unusual but not unknown for him to have an RAF pattern AG wing.

That seems to have been a rather mean-minded decision on the part of the British authorities! The Bomber Command offensive still had 11 months to run on D Day and countless casualties. Mike

It may have had something to do with not flying over Germany. They did that for ops - unless it was over the Third Reich, it only counted as a third or half an op towards a 30 -p tour. It does seem pretty mean-spirited though.

The RAF website lists 434 as being an RCAF squadron ("Bluenose") based in Tholthorpe, Yorkshire.

The AG half wing looks good to me.

You might be able to find out more about your man.

No doubt at all about the brevet....it just sings!!!!

Pretty common to receive the British pattern. Here's an image from a RCAF photo album that I own.

Thanks...I saw it quickly this morning. Will take a closer look when I get a chance. I'll get Arnie Kay to retrieve his service records.
