Hey fellow badgers, hope your all well.
Anyone got any idea what date the King's Own Scottish Borderers changed from Shako's to Visor caps please. Cheers. Kev. |

KOSB didn't wear a shako, they wore a Kilmarnock. HLI wore a shako.

I think it was only the Adjutant or Officer of the day who wore the peaked forage cap. Other than the Kilmarnock they would have worn Glengarry. Visor caps arnt worn normally in Scottish Regts. I think the KOSB Adj wore the visor cap 1903 era. Colin

May be miles off but wasn't it just the Adjutant of the KOSB`s who wore a "visor cap " or am I just having a senior moment ?
P.B. ( As sometimes happens by the time I had found the picture and typed my post Colin had submitted his post )

Kev,
My picture is from a paper showing WW1 casualties and I think the picture may have been taken a number of years prior to WW1. Peter

KOSB officers wore a 'Forrage Cap, Universal Pattern, blue cloth with diced band and scarlet welts' with undress uniform between 1903 -1914, as did officers of two other Lowland regiments. Described in Dress Regulations 1911, though my info comes from 'Dispatch' The Journal of the Scottish Military Historical Society No. 128 p. 18.
