Many thanks.
Assistance much appreciated Mike. What about the time frame, if I may ask?
40's-50's ? BR, Dominique |

That would be my impression, Dominique. Warren Carroll gives the period as late 1943 - early 1944.

Thank you David. Still worn in the early 50's I reckon ? As to the backing of the wing above it's made of thin black hessian material. Isn't that construction typical of British made brevets? All good wishes, Dominique |

I think you're right about the backing, although I have also seen beige canvas on a couple of RAF brevets (i.e. Bomb Aimer). If it was worn in the 50's it would have been until the Queen's Crown was issued sometime after 1953, I suspect, although the wearer may not have changed it on his uniform.

Canada's Air Force changed wing patterns to a double wing like the pilot in 1947, so this wouldn't have been worn in the 50s

1947.
Many thanks for these information Mike.
BTW, what are your thoughts about the backing? BR, Dominique |

Standard backing as far as I'm concerned. I'm good with this black backing, as well as the hessian/buckram backing, and also starched paper. All three are acceptable in my opinion.

I hope you don't mind me tagging another wing onto this subject string. attached is a Air Gunner's Brevet. I think nits a good one but always good to get a 2nd opinion. Why/when did the crown and RCAF appear and why?

The crown and cypher are absent because this is an RAF piece, for British Aircrew. It's a nice wing, just not Canadian
