Default Rifle Brigade KK 705 smaller OSD

Having read some previous informative threads on The Rifle Brigade, especially those by a member called Charlie who sold off an extensive collection of RB badges some years ago; I’d like to show a recent acquisition of a bronze OSD for comments.

I have photographed the OSD badge next to a common 1905 OR’s which is KK 705 and previous threads show as sealed pattern 44091D. The measurements are approx. h 47mm x w 40mm.

Hopefully, the photos show clearly that the OSD from this same pattern is a bit smaller being h 44mm x w 36mm. Measured using a school ruler so measurements are approximate.

The threads unfortunately became a bit confusing with multiple references to larger and smaller badges from earlier and later patterns. So any reasons for the size of this OSD badge?

Greetings.

It would appear that your Officer's badge is a cast item.

A cast from a mould of a badge will render it somewhat slightly smaller than the actual size of the donor badge.

Hope this answers your question.

Regards.

Brian
