Guards OSD rank crowns
I seem note that most Guards officer OSD uniform rank crowns seem to be plain brass/gilt without the crimson backing. I only collect pre 1945, but assume that this is still current, but is this indeed the case since OSD was adopted?

On most shoulder rank crowns there is a velvet crimson or red fill in the voids of the crown. They are retained by small blades on the reverse.
There are crowns without this, leaving the voids blank, just as there are rank stars which have enamel filled coloring and others are plain. I am guessing that the Guards wore the plain crowns as their unique ranks stars were plain without the colored enamel, but can anyone confirm this? CB
