unknown dragon collar buffs?
got this from a friend and without the loop in the tail I assume it is not for a welsh regiment but it does not match those I have for the buffs and I could not find it in Churchill & Westlake 1986.
Any help would be appreciated.

I thought I would bump this in case any who had not previously seen it has an answer. I did wonder if perhaps it was an early Mons regiment example as they used a version on the officers boss without the curl in the tail and also sometimes have that slight spread in the wings?

It's an earlier pattern for The Buffs.

Thanks Keith, much appreciated. Any thoughts on what date it would be?

Worn 1894-98, when it changed to the more familiar 'wings swept back' pattern to match the newly introduced cap badge.

The you show on the left is the officers pattern. The Buffs had a couple of others, a more elongated dragon and a bi-metal rearing horse both worn prior to 1894. The former is a beautiful badge and extremely rare, I only have one plus a cast facing gap filler.
