Default Coldstreamers and Welsh Guards

Hi,

here are two badges:Coldstreamers and Welsh Guards. What can you say about each of them?

Its hard to fault either, however guards are renowned for polishing their badges and the Coldstream badge is one prone to loss of obverse detail. It looks to me like both havent been worn which doesnt mean they are fake by the way.

Some of the better condition badges I have in my collection are late issues that were manufactured just before staybright badges were brought it or the regiment amalgamated.

You can see my Welsh Guards here:

Jibba Jabba,

did the Guards wear the privately purchased yellow metal badges after introduction of staybright ones?

Never heard of the yellow metal private purchase story?

Ive always assumed the yellow metal ones to be the fakes. The examples Ive kept for my own collection have high copper content.

Metal badges are still purchased and worn by a lot of Guardsmen.
