47th CEF collars ?.
Hi. Are these 47th CEF collars, or were they worn by a post WWI Canadian militia unit ?. I know that CEF badges came in a lot of finishes, but to me this looks post WWI ?.

Hi irishhorse,
Hard to tell the finish by the photo (lugs might help) but those do look like CEF period collars, possibly Tiptaft with the framed ribbons. The 47th Bn was disbanded in September, 1920 but was perpetuated by the Royal Westminster Regiment. Often a version of cap and collar badges was incorporated into the badges of perpetuating units and this was the case with the 47th collars - though the only reference I have (Mazeas) shows the addition of a banner below the 47th collar with the motto "Pro Rege et Patria". Cheers, Ian. |

As Ian indicates, the post WW1 collars perpetuating the 47th CEF appear to be differentiated by the addition of a scroll to the bottom of the badge. The GO approval for the badge is dated 1931, but that may be for the cap and not include the collars.
I agree with Ian, the collars appear to be CEF era. |

Thanks. I bought them as CEF, just need reassurance.

I'll dig out the WW2 and current versions in my collection and throw up some pictures for comparison.
