Default WWI Irish Guards O/R cap badge. Position of lugs?

Hi,

I have what I think is a genuine WWI Irish Guards cap badge with lugs north & South. Is this right or does it suggest the badge is fake?

Simon

(Will post photo when I get the chance)

I have no idea other than to say my example is east west, assuming I am looking at it the right way!!

Default A/A stars N&S lOOPS -REJECTED

on a related note an A/A other ranks star issued with loops N&S in 1979 was rejected (and never worn) by the regiment due to the accidental placing of the loops in this configuration and scratches on the rays of the star.

The source of this data is the Guards Museum.

Alan

would you be able to post a photo of your cap star? I am interested in seeing the crowns, shamrock leaf and stem details as I am trying to date a particular die pattern.

thanks

John

Steve

yes indeed it is, I would be very grateful if you would post a photo showing the features I mentioned in as much clarity as you can manage.

thanks

I got this one out of the album to photograph it and realised that it is my Scots Guards cap star that has the N-S lugs and this IG one has E-W. My memory is clearly going. Anyway it is WW2 era.

John,
here you go............. the origional belt has a few other nice badges also. Including 1910 Suffolk (a little bent), Northampton/long key(slider broken & stitched on), NZ WW1 MG collar,& the reason I bought it......Warwickshire 1st Birmingham Batn.(with all the correct trimmings) . All origional to the belt, complete with dust & dirt ,etc
Note 1 lug broken now & other is still bent over ,to attach here. I guess this is 'lucky', as am able to show the back .
Used the Micro & flash to show detail best, otherwise is very age darkened, as are most of the others.
Cheers !
Steve

Thank you both, your posts are very helpful. I have been trying to research the badges of the Irish Guards in the past few months with the limited free time I have, it is very difficult to find reliable information and these posts help a great deal.

Hi John,

I've tried to get a good image but my camera can't get a good close-up of it. I've a scanner - but can't find the lead for it at the moment...
