Canadians?
I'm guessing Canadians because of the helmets. If I'm correct, does any Canadian member have a better quality version of this image? It would be an interesting one to analyse - the title above the Combined Operations sign - left foreground for example. Thanks. Mike

Hi Mike, What is the source of the image? Any naming/details?
It certainly looks like Juno Beach.

HI Mike, The image is Canadian, and is from Library and Archives Canada. It is featured in this series of images posted on Huffington Post Canada. It is identifed as W Commando Royal Canadian Navy, but was not taken until July 8, 1944.
The title is likely "COMMANDO". Here are other images of W Commando personnel showing their insignia. http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discove...opy=a142456-v6 http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discove...&Ecopy=a136281

Coincidentally, we just picked up an I'D tunic to this group, and will bringing it to the CSMMI show this weekend. Very nice indeed!

Hi Mike, Not sure. They are likely on dark blue, and may read Royal Canadian Navy.

Interestingly, one of the photo's is captioned "Lieutenant Leslie Herbert Browne, Royal Canadian Engineers, playing his David Glen bagpipes aboard a ship en route to France on D-Day, 6 June 1944. Photographer: Donald I. Grant"
There is another thread here that says the piper is Frank Murray from Liverpool.

There appears to be different insignia worn by W Commando illustrated in various photos at LAC. A few more images linked below.

Faces of War
Faces of War is a great site, unfortunately with anything man-made there are errors. I have brought the errors forward that I have noticed, but unfortunately there is no mechanism/will by the LAC to make any changes.
