Well Jo nailed it with the first guess. As to the other errors bang on there too. What I thought was the only issue turns out to be just one of many problems. I tip my glen off to all of you, I am now looking even closer than before.
Thanks for all of the replies and I hope it was fun! I know I've enjoyed seeing all of the answers and maybe we will still find some more problems. I hate to admit that these poorly turned out fellows are from my own regiment, lets hope the men and women currently serving have a learned how to march and wear their "kit" better.

Looks like they were photographed just as they started the march from a standing start, given the lack of movement at the end of the column. "On your left! March!!" The old convoy accordian effect.

As for the old fella front, looks like the guy beside him is thinking, 'No Sir, your OTHER left!"
