Monmouth School
Monmouth school nicely maker marked to Gaunt Birmingham. I don't have K&K Vol 2 so I don't have a ref for this but the seller had it as Monmouth School. I assume JRGAUNT B'HAM is fairly modern, 1970's or newer?
A very pretty badge and goes nicely with the collars I have of the same design.

This badge has been attributed to the CCF. I was told that the pattern was sealed in a/a in the late 1960s. The CCF currently wears a cloth badge with a dragon design.
The OTC wore a different design completely. |

If I have this correct, it is CCF pre late 1960's but an original? I did think that perhaps it was cadets rather than OTC. I did look in your album but it was not shown so that made me think not OTC.

The CCF is still going so you could drop them or the school archivist and email and they might be able to confirm what they wore.

Eddie is your man for this. Look in his albums.

Brilliant Kevin, Eddie does indeed appear to be the man of this, not schools but 2nd Mons 1950's to late 60's when the school did also wear it.
http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ictureid=26180 It just depends if Gaunt B'ham is OK for these dates.

Jerry,
It's a post 1970s reproduction item! See this thread http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=34586 Some could well have ended up in the headdress of cadets post 1970 but they would not have been "issue" items, more likely privately acquired? Andy |

Which is why I am asking as with hindsight I remembered that this marking is mostly too late for many badges on which it is seen. No chance they were used as Alan suggested for the CCF before the cloth badge was used. I realise this was offered by Alan as a last chance suggestion and is not very likely. At least it was not too pricey from a well known seller known for sending his wares in old ciggy packets.

Thanks David, that would be great if you can, though I am fairly certain it will not be good news.

The a/a standard badge pattern card in the IWM collection is attributed to Monmouths rather than the school. The badge was made by Firmin London. Here is the link to the badge :- http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/30074374
According to Wiki, the 2nd Btn which was the last surviving Btn ended in 1968,they then become part of 3RRW . Last edited by Alan O; 20-05-16 at 01:42 PM. |

This badge was worn by 2nd Bn Monmouthshire Regiment from 1954 in brass and A/A, NAM has a sealed pattern card 1965. If the Monmouth School wore the brass badge, I think it would have been a private purchase as Andy said. Eddie Last edited by eddie; 07-08-16 at 10:38 AM. |

I picked up an AA version to make up for the uncertain but probably copy version from the start of this thread. It is a HW Timings LTD B'ham example...

Jerry,
A Top Tip, if you're looking for a genuine c.1954 pattern Gm badge, is they have a slightly wider slider than standard. A similar slider as that on genuine last pattern Rifle Brigade Wm badges. Andy Last edited by 2747andy; 01-08-15 at 05:42 AM. |
