Thanks for showing, that's a great picture, I wish all pictures of servicemen in uniform showing insignia was a clear and informative as this one !! never seen the Drake cap & shoulder titles together in the cap,i've seen the shoulder title worn alone before in the cap. Would anyone know if the wearing of both would have been official or just something the individual soldier did for what ever reason ?

A superb photograph.

The cap has the R.N.D. S/T beneath the badge and I cannot see if he is wearing Hawke S/Ts in the usual place. He has his overseas chevrons visible so the photograph must have been taken after April 1918 at the earliest.

I have altered your photograph in order to bring out the detail. I hope that this is O.K.

All the badges suggests to me that he has badged up his tunic for a photo at the end of the war prior to demob possibly.

Are they cap badges used as collar badges?
Not my collecting field, but a great photograph!

Yes I think they are full sized cap badges.

Holy Boy

Nice clear picture showing some nice RND badges but tend to agree with Alan that it may be a staged picture. The collar badges appear to be cap badges worn as collar badges (all 3 are the same size and all face left). The only OR's collar badges I have seen are those for the Hood Battalion and they are smaller than the Hood cap badge. Still a useful picture though.

Default RND collar badges

I have a small Howe collar badge that has never had any lugs attached, as to whether it was meant to be a collar badge or a sweetheart I am not sure.

Before the individual cap badges were worn I believe a brass numeral was worn above an RND shoulder title on the cap.

A cracking photo. Not my field of collecting either but a couple of questions, if I may:

It appears there is some sort of cover being worn on his cap?

Under the coloured square patch on his upper left arm there appears to be another square patch. I can see an outline with what looks like something 'squiggly', perhaps an anchor and rope or similar??

Or am I chasing shadows?
