Default L Detachment

Freddy joined the Royal Armoured Corps on 31st January 1942. The Met Police however would not release him until 11th March though. Even then it was on un-paid leave, a sort of career-break.

Upon completion of training Trooper Freddy Crouch was posted to the Middle East, where, bored with a Depot existence, he volunteered for the Special Air Service. He joined the fledgling regiment in February 1943. On 24th April Freddy was posted to the Special Boat Squadron, which was then still part of the SAS. July 1943 found him a qualified parachutist, engaged upon raiding in the Decodonese and Yugoslavia.

If anyone has access to back copies of Mars & Minerva they'll find his full story printed there. Off-hand I cannot remember which edition they printed my article in and I've mislaid my copy.

Stephen.

In the 90s there was a requirement for a deployed squadron to blend in, and so all of a sudden a new Signals squadron appeared on the block for a while with R sigs berets and badges. Never say never!
