Default SAS wing identification

Gentlemen,

I have a question about this SAS wing. Is it authentic and if so from which period would it be?

Cheers

I believe Johan will inform you that this is a fantasy, produced by a dealer in the Netherlands, circa 1980's.

Johan ?

Default SAS wing

Friends,

Absolutely correct!

Made in Pakistan by a Dutch militaria dealer back in the 70-80ies.

Remember: 'yesterday's reproduction is today's original!'

Look at the flimsy metal strips at the back. No idea how they were supposed
to work in daily life. I mean would you cut little holes in your shirt, stick the metal strips through and bend them??

Enough said. Watch this pattern and be warned. Thank Goodness they are not original. Ugly as sin!

Cheers,

Johan

Gents,

thanx for the quick response, and thanx for saving me money!
It was sold as coming from a Dutch East Indies veteran, which was also weird.

Bas

And if there are any Dutch East Indies wings out there let me now .

hi Bas,

Yes, that vague provenance is an attempt to give some credibility to the weird wing. At least it is a reference to the Dutch connection.
What were they asking for it?

Cheers,

Johan

Yes just because something was bought from someone or a well known collection 30 years ago doesn't make it period genuine. Fakes have been made forever. Some Rhodesian fakes were being made within two years of the war ending.

Caveat emptor!

Hi Shaun,

Yes, I do. I think it is an early, locally made wing. The white thread used on the rigging lines is the typical twisted thread used in early wings.

If the other white threads do glow, they could be a later repair and Alex would be right!

Cheers,

Johan

I would suspect so too.

The white threads on the wings are not something I've see in early photos, and I have a number showing early members. The wings I have came from an L-Detachment original, being his first issue wings.

Hi Shaun,

I like these wings a lot! LRDG, I think?

Have seen them before, in Amsterdam, some years ago when you visited the Netherlands...

Cheers,

Johan
