Talking No.7 Commando

Chaps - can anyone comment on the attached No.7 Commando title. Is it a copy? If not is it wartime or after etc.

Many thanks in advance chaps

Regards all

Bess

No.7 Commando went to the Middle East as part of Layforce and was disbanded before the red on black shoulder titles were formalised for the Commandos in 1943. Therefore, while shoulder titles might have been made, they were not actually worn by No.7 (or No.8 or No.11) Commandos.

Colin beat me to it - they are not noted as manufactured.
The explanation Colin gives is correct for Nos 7, 8, and 11, Cdos - I am not aware of any earlier titles that are correct for these units either - ie preceding introduction of red and blue for Cdo units of Special Service Bde later SS/Cdo Group. Nos 7, 8, and 11 Cdos had served within Layforce in Middle East / Med - and been disbanded by the time red on blue came out. Although they look Red on Black - I believe the titles are officially red on blue (albeit very dark blue).

Many thanks all. They are indeed on a very dark blue backing and not black. Rather moth eaten around the edges and unworn. Curiously I pulled it out of a box of wartime RN ratings badges ( not my area either).

However, if the dates do not match, then so be it. Close but no cigar!

Many thanks gents once again.

Regards all

Bess
