Default SAARF

I think the best examples are in Len Whittaker's STOPA.

You might find this website helpful. It belongs to Les Hughes a well known collector here in the U.S. He has a link to SAARF as well as other SF related insignia.

Jon, I agree with Jack and Mike -- Les Whitaker's book is still the best printed reference I know of for UK special units of WW2, and the photos of insignia are reliably authentic. Les Hughes website is the best online reference around for information on SAARF. Excellent photos there of original SAARF insignia, along with great background info. Les is planning to publish a book on OSS uniforms and insignia, which should be quite a reference.

There are a couple photos in my OSS album of good SAARF insignia, if you want to check them out as well.

Cheers, Donovan

Thank you gentlemen
I don't actually own STOPA, but have some good German ref books, so will hit up some stores to see if one can get hold of a copy through exchanging.
The picture in Peter Taylor's book is attributed to Les Hughes.
Later guys
Jon

The picture in Scooby Doo's book on p. 185 has been described as a copy.

Default SAARF

Friends,

Please find attached a scan from Some Talk of Private Armies by the late Len Whittaker with good pictures of SAARF insignia. This book is from 1984.

Best regards,

Johan

A framed original S.A.A.R.F. Wing, bought from a veteran, and to its right a version I have always been unsure of, but is interesting. An image also of three S.A.A.R.F. Titles, the top two are original, but the lower one is not.

I believe that if you go onto the Imperial War Museum's web site you can search and see one from their collection.
