This is my latest find. The 'low-tide' version which I have been after for ages. I think that it looks ok and is well struck.

Hi Alan that looks a nice badge, here is my latest find a 19th that I think has been plated, can anyone give a reason why they think this was done.

Thanks
Malc

Hi Malc,

Looking at the wear on the surface of the badge I would say it was plated after its service life (as the brass is obviously well smoothed and rounded and if polished while plated would have rubbed the plate off completely before the brass became abraised). I've seen this done to several brass badges in the past (usually at bootfairs) where they have usually been plated in chrome. The only explaination I can offer is for display purposes.

Cheers,

Luke

Alan,

I'm no expert by a million miles but from the OR badges I've seen and handled of the Hackney regt I've not seen one with the uneven revetted levels of the tower which I like.

Added to this they never really appear with really nice as you would expect stereotypically earlyish sliders it is a hard badge to call so I tend to rely on soldiers bull and age. Pics of my two are attached both I'm sure of although I dislike the way the HT varient has been mis-stamped slightly but it has the nicer slider and greater age on the back out of the two.

Being totally honest with you I can't say the badge definitly isn't good but patina, agewise and tower wise I'm not a fan of it, sorry mate. But it could just be the way the badge has been kept over the years, I would ask Keith's opinion.

Luke

Forgot to mention generally I think the crowns should have a bit of depth to them as well

This is the low tide next to the high tide versions. I have been unable to date the variation.

A 10th County of London (Paddington Rifles) brass voided vairety. The battalion was disbanded in 1912 due to a fall in recruits in the area. Any and all comments on the badge welcome.

Regards,

Luke

Hi, most of my titles are to the Inns of Court OTC but I do have these three singles, to the 28th, please don't laugh but I bought the two white metal titles as a pair, he must have seen me coming. What made it worse, was the fact that I had them for over a month before I realised how big a wally I was ?? anyway, all three are looking for partners, as is the I. of C.

Can anyone advise which of the London Regt badges should have a felt background?

What colour(s) should the backgrounds be (I think they are all red but am not 100% sure), and what shape should they be?

I, just about, have the full set and am going to get them framed for display, so want to get the presentation sorted.
