Makers mark
Hello, my first post on here. Can someone clear this up for me once and for all. I thinks I've seen this question on here before and an answer....Are anodised badges with the makers mark "J.R.GAUNT LONDON LTD" made for the collectors market or "Unofficial Commission" of fakes? Thanks in advance.

Hi Martin, welcome to the Forum. Your account is active and open for posts.
There are numerous threads on the Gaunt markings which can be found using the search.

This is my view on the makers mark J.R.GAUNT LONDON LTD with a flat bottom G and no full stop after LTD
See https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...p?albumid=4313 As sourced from the PRI (President of the Regimental Institute) unit shop - these badges were ordered by the unit and purchased and worn by soldiers. They were not produced under the MOD contract system. However, badges marked J.R.GAUNT LONDON LTD. with a round bottom G and a full stop after LTD were probably made for the collectors market as they include badge designs of the late 1960s TAVR which were not brought into use before the units concerned were disbanded or reorganised. For example: Hampshire & Isle of Wight Territorials and Wiltshire Territorials Tim

Here is a Royal Regiment of Gloucestershire and Hampshire cap badge with the J.R.GAUNT LONDON LTD. mark with round bottom G and full stop after the LTD.
Clearly produced for the collectors' market. Tim
