Default Albert Shako Plates

I was lucky enough to pick up the ORs shako plate shown below to the 23rd Foot recently and just thought I'd post my other Albert pattern shako plates for those who may be interested and may wish to post their own.
The ones shown are;-
1. 23rd Foot ORs.
2. 41st Foot Officers.
3. 41st Foot Grenadier Company Officers.
4. 41st Foot ORs.
Hwyl,
Kevin

Kevin,

Very impressive.

I have never seen an officers Albert Shako plate on the market for the 63rd or the 96th, which is a shame as I have always loved that plate, and yours are spectacular examples.

regards

Splendid examples of some very rare shako plates. Congrats Kevin on acquiring them and many thanks for sharing them with us. Jeff

Simon and Jeff, glad you like them.

The officers' plates of this period are only surpassed in elegance by those worn on the preceding Bell Top shako in my opinion, but those come up for sale even less frequently than this pattern.
Jeff,

I'll get the weight & dimensions for the small pattern 23rd glengarry over to you when I get a chance.

Hwyl,

Kevin

Kevin,

I notice that the 41st Officers Albert Shako Plates are for the Fusilier Company and which other Company?

Is there also a bugle horn badged plate for the Light Company?

regards

Simon,

Technically the plate with the grenade on is for an officer in the Grenadier Company and yes there will be one with a bugle horn on for an officer in the Light Company. I have not seen a Light Company one to date and my Grenadier Company one is the only one of those I've seen to date.

The standard pattern plate is for a regular Battalion or Line Company officer.

Cofion gorau,

Kevin

Thanks Kevin, I meant Grenadier Company.
Hope you find a Light Company one to make the set!

Bosleys is probably your only hope these days.

Following the recent DNW sale I have been able to add an ORs Grenadier Company Shako plate to the collection and thought I'd show the combination of my helmet plates with medals to both the 41st & 23rd Foot. The 41st medals are to a private who served throughout and survived (no mean feat considering the rampant disease), a Captain who was promoted from Drum Major without purchase following Inkerman and a private in the 23rd RWF from Neath who also served in the Indian Mutiny.

Default Always Clean

I had my suspicions that this 23rd Foot grenade plate for the Albert shako was something more than standard gilding metal under the crud and after a gentle clean, hey presto it's gilded. As such I suspect it is probably for a senior NCO.

Five years later & I have finally been able to add an ORs plate for the Light Company. Now to find an Officer’s plate to complete the set. Someone has punched some holes through to mount it on something but a scarce badge nonetheless.

I am speechless. Rare quality pieces that are not seen over here.
Regarding cleaning, I always do so on every badge as one cannot be sure what is underneath. I too have revealed more gilding that was apparent on some badges.
