Default mixed cloth

Hi, picked up these pieces of cloth in a lot. Are they connected and what are they? I'm not really up to scratch on modern cloth so they don't make much sense to me. I'm assuming some are off sports shirts. Also, probably more important, are any bits armoured? thanks in advance, Mike

The first 3 look like they are cut off motives from operational tour T shirts.

The Commandants Award badge is an award badge from Yorkshire North and West Army Cadet Force, the Colts Canter 90 badge was awarded to a cadet who took part in the 1990 15 Brigade cadet competition and the Yorkshire North and West is obviously a cadet badge but I'm not sure what for. OC14 will surely be able to confirm what it is.

The West Lowland ACF would have been worn on a cadets brassard.

Hello Fearnaught,

Apologies that this answer is a few years late in coming, but I came across the post, whilst looking for something else.

The 'Mushroom' badge was worn by Rating members of Commando Squadrons (845, 846, 848) the rating aircrew on their flying overalls and by rating maintence personnel on their working coveralls. KITD - Kept In The Dark / FOHS - Fed On Horse Shit.

The general gripe about never being told of what was going on?

Hoping that this is of some use.

Hi FA1234, thank you for the reply. I think it was the universal cry of the night shifts everywhere as well, best wishes Mike

The green Yorkshire ACF was the County TRF ,no longer worn. Replaced by one that covers the whole of Yorkshire. Red,with a yellow horizontal stripe with a blue stripe either side and a white rose in the centre.

Mike

not quite correct, the green TRF and the replacement both cover/covered Yorkshire North & West ONLY - South Yorkshire and East Yorkshire both come under Humberside and South Yorkshire ACF

Op Lodestar gave way to Op Palatine around 1998?
Personal mail was still coming through to me addressed via Op Lodestar in 1999 - 2000 although the army would sometimes get narky about the wrong Op name being used.

Just for completeness, Op Lodestar (SFOR) was preceded by Op Resolute (IFOR). Before that (during the war) it was Op Grapple (UNPROFOR).

Yes, Leigh, my final tour of Bosnia was from September 1998 to March 1999; I ‘believe’ that was the initial Op Palatine tour.

Correction: the first Op Palatine commenced in June 1998.
