Yikes! The "Q.C." department was napping at the switch that day! Look at the way that the centre has been blanked out.

Not seen one like that before!

Hi

I'm happy to post pics of all the plated ones I have, although it may be better to just post numbers and makers but whatever the consensus is, just let me know.

The 1916 badge seems to have really fired people's creative imagination at the time and I've posted pics of many small versions of them ranging from professional efforts to, school boy metal work productions that would have been graded "F" with a "must try harder next term..."

Those oval footed hooks (and hinges) were bought commercially and I have some new/ old jeweller's stock of them in brass and nickel silver and in all sizes. They are often seen on high quality brooches that have lost their catches and the process of hard-soldering a new catch would have damaged the item.

Sadly, they also turn up on nice old Victorian medals which have been "brooched" for reasons one can only guess at nowadays.

Interlude

There are a couple of 1915 "chrome" badges on eBay , Gaunt ('S' series) for £35.00 and a Wooley ('K' series) for £35.00 .

My problem with "chrome" badges is .... when were the chromed ? They may have been done in 1915 or any point in time up to the present , I guess the only way to be sure would be to have a metallurgist test them.

Here is another described as "enamelled" that you have to see !

PS. - I think this British Legion badge may have been repaired/modified but I'm not 100% sure !

Enamelled.... with a crayon.

I have one of the 1915 chromed (or nickel plated?) and agree, hard to say when it was done, so I have a very open mind as to what it may or may not signify

cheers, Tim

PS, my 'chromed is Gaunt M series

Bit of paint stripper or thinners would sort that out.

It is a Gaunt badge with the 'series' letter ground off and a 'J' stamped on the horse shoe fitting indicataing that the badge had been re-issued.

And re-painted, or maybe re-enameled?
