Could be Royal Lincolnshire Regt. as its a similar design to the mess dress button in Ripley (600) and seems to be on the hat of a "Royal " regiment.

I am sure that the flat silver/gilt 'mess dress' button was not intended for use on the cap like lhis? The cap button should be all Gilt or Bronzed, c1949 all service dress buttons were produced in annodised.

The button style continued after 1960 when Royal Lincolnshire Regtiment amalgimated with the Northamptonshire Regiment to form the 2nd East Anglian Regiment (Duchess of Gloucester's Own Royal Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire) a short-lived infantry regiment from 1960 to 1964. Its lineage is continued by the Royal Anglian Regiment.

I dont know about the Lincolns but the Kings Liverpools certainly wore what is described as an officers mess dress button ( Ripley 598 ) as a chin strap button on the full dress cap. See attached picture.

On the service dress cap however they wore anodised regimental buttons
