Default Parachute Jump Instructor (PJI) half wing brevets

Gents,

I want to share with you my collection of British-inspired PJI brevets from various countries. Comments and suggestions are most welcome. I've also posted this on the Colonial insignia forum as many of the badges here are from the other countries.

Nice collection and I was wondering if anyone knows if the lower most right hand side United Kingdom PJI was worn during WW2 or after?

The lower UK PJI badge is the WW2 pattern, but I don't know if it is genuine or not.

Technically the bronze Aussie one is a Parachute Jump Master

There are also unofficial miniature versions of each one - I believe they are rejected manufacturing samples.

Bullion mess dress versions also exist.

ps

Nice collection!

Mick, you're right. I left it in only because it looks like a half-wing

The silver one is the PJI, and the gold one is the FF PJI. I'm still looking for a burnished one too. If you manage to find a spare, please let me know.

Any idea how many FF PJIs currently wear the gold badge?

Will do mate.

I think there will only be a really small handful of FF qualified PJIs - I'll try and find out.

Thanks for the information. I have one just like your UK PJI badge and have always wondered if it was ever worn during WW2. I've attached a couple of other PJI badges that are variations of some of your PJI badges.

I've been told that a there is a total of 80 people (current and discharged soldiers) who have qualified for this gold PJI badge.

Here's my modest contribution, one British made and one Indian made example. Both WWII-ish period but hard to tell precisely.

Just found this UK PJI badge one Ebay (see photo). It is a very good reproduction and would have fooled me.

I saw it too, and thought it looked very well done.

Alf,

The Zimbabwe PJI printed brevet is a nastier looking knock off of the printed Rhodesian PJI brevet. There were three variations of the printed Rhodesian PJI brevet, all of which have become quite scarce to find today. I believe the variations were only due to shortages and materials available at the time due to worldwide sanctions and the cost of the war.

The first brevet on the lighter coloured material was the first one produced. I don't know the order after that.

Thanks for the pictures, Peter.

I've been searching for the padded version of the Zim PJI wing but have not found one yet.

I also have the Rhodesian PJI wing in cloth - the first on the left of your example.

I was interested to see the British heritage in the design of the Sudanese brevet. Remarkable how these things linger on.
