Probably worn on a leather wrist strap. Have a look at this thread

Hiya Alf, and Tim

Cooks would have worn these metal shoulder badges, They now wear chrome ranks L/Cpl - S/Sgt with a pin back fastener.

They would be worn by individuals who must have a change of clothing of 2 or more a day, causing them to need exceptional amounts of cloth rank badges.

They help minimise the spread of dirt, as the wearer can move the ranks from one set of dirty whites (Such as a Butcher) to another clean set of whites, which will enhance the cleaning of the whites "ONLY" when they go in the wash, without anything else (Sown on badges) added to the clothing.

They also wore these items in Tropical Climates in the RASC/RCT fleet, I'm sure other units within the Army wore similar rank items.

Nice though

Cheers Ken (The Fatboy)

Here are a few examples in brass with KC and QC and the chrome plated chevrons worn by chefs and nurses etc.
