Help please. A Royal Marines badge.
To include in a display I am after a badge worn by Royal Marines, and possibly others, during WW2.
A smallish badge of a red, narrow triangle, point downwards, and I think rounded at the top. On the badge was a long handled trident - yellow I think. Wll somebody please tell me the name of the formation this badge belonged to , so I will then know what I am looking for. Many thanks. johnG

Thanks Magpie and Peter for the rapid response. That is the badge I am looking for and will now log onto ebay in the hopes of finding one.

John
As has been mentioned above it is the formation sign for the Royal Marine Division and subsequently the 116th Infantry Brigade (Royal Marines). There is one on ebay at the moment but I have my doubts about it's authenticity. If you go to the IWM web site (http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/se...ms_per_page=10) and look at the pictures of their examples (plus the one shown above) you will see that at the bottom of the trident handle the yellow thread goes off to the side of the patch but the example on ebay does not have this (don't know if this is significant, maybe a cloth patches expert can shed some light). The one on ebay is http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3103933186...84.m1423.l2649 Paddy |

Thanks Paddy, the one on ebay may not be genuine but will suit my purpose nicely and I have put in a bid on it.
Much obliged to you. Regards, johnG

The 117 (RM) Inf Bde sign and the same vendor's other British formation signs almost all look genuine to me. I only have doubts about the 6 Guards Tk Bde sign.

Many thanks for all the helpful advice.
Looking through a bag of old buttons for a Royal Marines one got me wondering quite what I had got in that bag, so am now sorting them out and will post something in the appropriate section.........my initial reaction is (a) One of interest, and (b) Wishing I had never looked in that bag - it may have started something. Cheers, johnG
