Default RE Chemical Warfare Group Insignia

The arm insignia for Chemical Warfare Groups RE in WW2 was " a rectangle evenly divided into three vertical strips of green, yellow and red"

Can any tell me if there is any significance in the choice of these colours or was it just a random choice that fitted the purpose?
