Militia Artillery button?
I would like thoughts on this button I picked up recently with a few other items. I don't know much about buttons but I'm assuming it is a militia button because its in white metal.
It seems the makers name is Hobson and Sons and the word ?lexington. There also appears to be some writing engraved (perhaps by the soldier) beneath the loop but I can't make out what it says. Many thanks Ivan |

Volunteer Arty wore this button 1873-1901; Militia Arty also wore it 1873-1882, but then changed to the gilt and brass versions of the (Regular) Royal Artillery. (See the Litchfield booklet on Gunner buttons)

Actually, what you can't read is 1, 3 & 5 Lexington St., London - which is the trading address of Hobsons. It is a Volunteer officers' tunic button, pre 1901. David
