Default Unit colour patches

Hello,

I have bought a lot of Australian patches but I cannot identify some of them:

1st column : 2nd badge (black dragon) and 3rd (23)
3rd column : 5th badge (red square on purple)

If i'm not mistaken, the next to the end one on the bottom row is a British army TRF for the Royal Logistic Corps

Hi Laurent,

I believe the 'dragon' is a nine-headed hydra (or something similar) and belongs to what was in my day Land Warfare Centre Canungra. Probably something else now with all the changes but it was the jungle warfare school.

'23' is one of the Regional Cadet Units I think.

Red square on purple is/was possibly intended for 13th Combat Engineer Regiment but the square should be smaller and the patch was never worn by the unit in any case. I may be wrong there but it is a long time since I have had much to do with the modern colour patches.

That black dragon patch is the barracks patch for the Land Warfare Centre at Canungra.

I might ask Phil Blackwell who wrote the book on modern colour patches and see if he knows about the one with the big red square.

The red on purple is or was Directorate of Engineers.

I'm of the understanding that might have been an error patch for HQ 8th Brigade.

It should be an upright rectangle. There was some confusion with the original colour patch submission documentation in which the dimensions for patches were to be a 40mm square. Either the manufacturer or the unit got confused and this is how it was produced.

I think tuckerf is correct regarding the Directorate of Engineers patch although I can't find an authority for it. The patch currently worn by Head of Corps is supposed to be a purple square.

There were quite a few anomalies when these things first came out.
