Kings Own Scottish Borderers OSD badge.
Hello all,
As a collector of OSD badges can anyone inform me whether KOSB bladed bronze cap badges were ever issued? If so we’re they fretted or un-fretted? I have seen plenty of silver items but nearly never bronze badges. Thanks for any feedback. Richard |

Not that I have ever seen or heard of. OSDB badges were specifically intended and designed for service dress forage caps and jacket collars, and originally supposed to be of a standard size and design that could be used for both.
However, as the Scottish Regiments were not to wear the forage cap, but a glengarry or [later] bonnet instead, the OSDB wasn’t required for headdress. A small majority eschewsed OSDB collars too**, but some, particularly (but not exclusively) Lowland Regiments, did adopt them for that purpose only. The KOSB were among them, but chose a different design to their headdress insignia. **several regular battalions by simply ignoring the regulations and not wearing collar badges at all. NB. A number of regiments disliked that their collar badges were so large and unwieldy and subsequently modified the design. Last edited by Toby Purcell; 24-03-23 at 12:47 AM. |

Richard,
As per Toby's post and just to confirm the KOSB did not wear Bronze bonnet or Glengarry badges. Gerry |
