Default Castle on Shield badge

Hello Forum members,
I would be grateful for identification of this small badge.
The wording alludes me but could be Cyrillic?
Thanks, John

John,

I don't have a clue mate. The centre is from the seal used by the former Borough Corporation.

Dave,
I'm wondering if this badge is a Bulgarian fake?
Note the reversed "N" and other strange symbols.

The centre of the badge is the Windsor Town seal, granted to them in the 1300s. I believe Latin uses a backward N in it's alphabet.

Thanks Phil, I note that Cultman's are selling the same badge so it must be genuine. The wording is a puzzle.
Cheers, John

I expect it will be Middle English if from 1300s.

Thanks for that Phil. From another past thread,

"The lettering is medieval Latin, sometimes called "Lombardic" script. The castle was built shortly after the Norman conquest, commencing c1068, when the town got its seal, reproduced on the badge."

Cheers, John

It is NOT a fake by any stretch of the imagination. Its the last issue collar badge worn up to amalgamation in 1947.
