Can you identify or date this badge?
Greetings!
I am an American college student studying abroad, and I stumbled across this badge in an antique store in Glasgow. The sign said WWI Pin, and I have a weakness for Great War artifacts. (Plus it just looked so sad sitting there amongst random antiques in a shop.) However, I know nothing about badge collecting or even much about British military history during the Great War. According to Google, I have a WWI-WWII era Royal Artillery Cap Badge. The wheel spins, which is neat, but the jury is still out on whether it signifies anything. I've attached a photo which appears true to color and detail. Would you be able to identify, date, and tell me if this is even a legitimate badge? Any information at all is helpful! Thank you for your assistance! Best wishes, Jennifer |

Looks a good example to me and could well be of The Great War period- so well done. Regards, Paul.
This badge would have been worn by non officer ranks of the RHA, RFA and RGA-see link- http://www.1914-1918.net/cra.htm Last edited by wardog; 27-06-14 at 01:05 AM. |

Jennifer, the badge could even be WW2 or up until 1953 when the crown changed to the St. Edward's or Queen's Crown. I'm not sure how easy it is to pin it down any more than that, unless the earlier ones (like yours) had sliders and the later ones lugs, but I've seen both. Perhaps Marc (54Bty) who knows a lot about the Royal Artillery can come up with something more definitive.

Or Revdougal who hasn't been here for a long time. He was the bee's knees on Artillery as far as I was concerned.
