Default Reproductions on ebay

I have found this auction a bit concerning, he is selling a reproduction as a real badge. The reproduction is from the well known badge copier from England "badgeman2005"

The item is a CEF Medicine Hat 175th badge, which has a "silver" mark as far as I know this badge was never made originally in silver, and why have a mark like "silver" and not "sterling".

Now another ebay seller has sold the same badge as authentic, now I have spoken to this seller, and he pleads that he knows nothing about badges. But has sold over 300 badges in the past years.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for pointing this out. As a keen (but novice) Canadian collectors and someone who like the occasional piece of silver such practices are despicable and my gratitude for this forum and members like your good self who highlight such abounds.

300 badges sold and he knows nothing about them? Nothing about that smells right..

Roy.

There are numerous threads about this first mentioned dealer who is well known in the UK in respect of his activities. Its inevitable that his wares are and will be sold by other dealers. Anything marked with the single word "silver" should be treated with great caution in my opinion. Nothing new!

Dave.

Badge appears to have sold for over $250cdn I paid less for my first type 175th cap badge just before christmas....... More dollars than sense comes to mind!!

Such a poor fake with obvious casting defects....... whomever bought this needs to buy some reference material before making a purchase like that.

Cheers
Chris

As has been mentioned countless times, collectors should do their research before laying out a single nickel (now that we don't have pennies) on a badge. Silver is not a standard or legal mark of any sort in Canada.

His pictures are of higher quality badges than you will actually receive too.

Default cef silver badge

This dealer is well known as a very dodgy guy to put any trust in please do as I do and make a list of any dealers mentioned on here by reputable dealers or buyers who have been duped and paid out good money for rubbish bits of metal and as said before if you are a beginner I can assure you there are some very good dealers on the forum get some books gaylor wilkinson and kipling and king are just a few and remember 95% of all badges on ebay in my opinion are fakes and not very gòod ones at that
