Default Help ID buttons

Hi All,

I have been having a sort out and found some buttons at the bottom of my badge box, can anyone help me with them.

The first one is an RAF one but am I reading the maker correctly, Buttons Ltd B'Ham? and is there a particular reason why the bit you would sew it to the uniform with is flat, almost squared off?

The middle small one is brass with a scrap of khaki material attached but I don't know what it is.

The third is also small, I'm guessing light infantry?

Thanks for the help,

Michael

The second button is Royal Irish Fusiliers, the third is KRRC, also used by Rifle Brigade.

Same button is shown on RAAF memorabilia site , no mention of why loop was 'flat'.

With RAF buttons it is worth checking to see if the front unscrews to conceal an escape compass!

re "3rd is similar to R.I.Fus" - the plate on bottom with numeral does not seem to be there and the stance of the eagle differs.

Thanks for the help everyone, I really appreciate it.

Leigh, I have made a note of the KRRC, thank you.

Thanks for the link Mike, like you I know nothing about buttons, I just thought I should include them in my lists as I seem to be gathering a few now.

Chris, I agree there are some variations, could that be down to different manufacturers or do you think it's a different regiment?

Tim, that would be fantastic. I have tried after I saw your post but it doesn't seem to unscrew. I didn't want to force it in case I damage the button.

I take it there are no clues, like a particular maker etc.

Michael

I've always had my "eagle" button filed as a RIF one. My having it labelled as such for years doesn't mean I havnt misidentified it but to me it was simply a variation of RIF, the tablet under the eagle bearing a small round blob rather than a "8".

Have you checked to see if your RAF button has a left hand thread, anti clockwise rather than clockwise?

Good point !

These buttons were originally designed with a “right hand thread” which was later changed to a “left hand thread” once the Germans discovered that some buttons concealed escape aids.

Would I be right in thinking this one is Royal Scots Greys?
