Default Vth INNISKILLING DRAGOON GUARDS

I have this slightly smaller VDG badge which is lug and tang so probably WW1 or earlier when the VDG wore the horse badge? Was this badge used by officers as a FSC badge while the horse badge was worn as this design did not officially come in till c1936 I understand? Denis

Denis

The officers wore this design well before WW1 whilst the ORs wore the horse design.

The ORs version was sealed in 1929.

Thank you for your reply Alan. I have a horse officers badge but had to wait a long time before I found it. Was the silver VDG badge the more commonly worn one?

Denis

All the photos I have seen of 5th DG officers both pre and during WW1 have the officers wearing the VDG badge.

Alan,
Many thanks for info, that would explain the scarcity of the horse badge! Interesting that both early examples I have are slightly smaller than the post 1929 version.

I have a lovely set of Officers collar badges by J&Co, would love to come across a matching cap badge at some stage.

Hi Ian
Your officers J&Co collars are super - as Alan says, the VDG badge was mainly worn and hence the scarcity of the officers horse badge and the price it commands.
