Default OSD badges

I think these were introduced around 1902.

Default OSD badges

I have always wondered why these OSD badges were introduced, possibly to make them less easily identified as to other ranks G/M, B/M or W/M badges.

I have a small Royal Engineers KC cap badge which the late Hugh King told me that it was worn during the Great War by officers to make them less conspicuous, as to whether this is another "old chestnut" about badges I am not sure, has anyone else heard of this theory?.

The badge is top right on my board and shows the size in comparison with normal OSD's.

Thank you all.

Rob, it is funny that you posted your RE badges as my original question was prompted by my looking for an OSD RE EVIIR badge.

Regards

Chris
