Antrim Artillery Shoulder title
I picked up what I suspect to be an uncommon Antrim Artillery shoulder title. Has anyone any thoughts on the date of production?

I think adopted c1907, and worn below a brass RGA title.

Many thanks, Irishhorse. I don't suppose you know how long this particular pattern was worn?

1907 - 1909, along with Cork Arty Militia.
All other Arty Militia lost their metal S/Ts in 1908 on reorganisation. |

For interest a cloth version dated 1916.

Many thanks for your input, chaps! Interesting that these were only around for a couple of years!
I've found some images of the Antrim Artillery which I thought I would share. The first two are of the men in Carrickfergus castle (their headquarters) and the third is of the officers

The metal title is sealed pattern 6328/1905 and the IWM have a sealed pattern card (I copied the Londonderry, Clare, Tipperary and Cork cards when last there but not Antrim).
Here is the link to the itemized entry online (no image) https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/30074082 I think it survived past 1909 and suspect it was on issue 'till 1919 when all special reserve units were demobilized and placed in suspended animation. It probably stayed in the PVCN for many years after that though in practice the unit was not in existence . Of the cards I have examined Londonderry, Clare and Tipperary are marked obsolete 17 June 1909 (this makes sense they were disbanded in 1909.) The Cork metal title is marked obsolete 28 Nov 1922 (This makes sense as Antrim and Cork survived the 1908 and 1909 re-orgs. and of course Cork was disbanded on formation of the Irish Free State) John Last edited by John Mulcahy; 26-05-20 at 01:30 PM. |

In Norman Litchfield's book The Militia Artillery 1852-1909. The dated given for the ANTRIM title is 1907. But in a correspondence with him dated 1994, he mentioned it was worn from c1905. He went on to mention probably worn during WWI.
