Default Royal Fusiliers Tin Badge

Going through my late step-fathers collections I have come across the badge pictured. As you can see it has the initials "RF" on it and crossed cannons, beneath the flame / bomb. I presume that this relates to the Royal Fusiliers, who have a long and illustrious history.
It is some 3 & 1/2 inches wide and made of tin. Can anyone tell me the period to which this badge belongs and to what it would have been affixed?.
Thank you.
