Default White Metal RAOC collar badge

Anyone shed light on KC white metal RAOC collar badge please? Although I've only seen brass specimens before - I'm assuming that this one isn't a Volunteers/TA badge.

If the loops are silver coloured then its plated.

Any chance of photos?

Default wm/chrome RAOC collar badge

Hello!
Sorry for delay in reply but a bit hit and miss on theses things.
Yes - maybe I should have suggested chroming but only very slight evidence of bases metal on rear (behind crown). In answer to your question, yes, the two lugs are of similar finish and with no sign of wear.In other words - if its chromed its been professionally done - given its age which is probably WW2 or before - based on the design. I just cant think why - had it been much earlier maybe Volunteer but now don't think that theory fits.
Over to you!
thanks
Steve
....afraid that I cant get pictures to you this way or if I can, don't know how. Unless you want to let me have your personal E Mail address...theyre all ready to send on -up to you.

This might be of help: http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...b3_attachments

As for the plated collar badge, my guess is unofficial blues dress collars.

Thanks for that tip!

Anyway - on reflection, I think Ill buy your theory that it was produced for, reasons of vanity and use on (a) patrol jacket(s)!
Pity it wasn't a pair though!
Thanks for your time and interest.

This raises the old chestnut of WM/plated/silvered badges worn by personnel attached to the RAC during WW2. I assume that if they wore a 'silver' cap badge they would have had collars to match? I have a pair of REME 1st Iss collars in WM that I assume are for that purpose.

Would a wartime BD have had REME collar badges on it?

regards

I would agree, but officers serving with RAC? Its an interesting point that needs some more investigation.

Collars were generally not worn by the Infantry and RAC mid-late war when the regts converted. The cavalry and yeomanry did have an affection for collars in BD and photos show then in use in 1944/5.

There is no hard and fast rule here as it was regtl practice and you see photos from the time with some Tprs with collars and some without.
