Belt buckle

Hi all,

Another random local find. Post to be from the house clearance.

Any idea who used these silver belt buckles? Can it be general militia buckles from Q.V. period?

Its an Other ranks Victorian General Service clasp for Volunteer Infantry.
The brown belt sometimes indicates worn by Mounted Infantry Company.

Hi,

The buckle presumably dates no earlier than the mid 1880's as the address of Hobson & Sons premises was renamed in c.1885 from 37-38, Little Windmill Street, to 1-3-5, Lexington Street.

I had a Hobsons wm General Service wbc female part, much better quality than other unmarked examples I have or have had.

It took me some time to find a male part of the same quality but looking at the star on the male part in the pictures, the one I found had the same mark and I presume that I found a Hobsons male part.

Thank you for posting that very interesting Hobson's advert. According to one internet site Little Windmill Street changed its name to Lexington Street in 1885, so you were spot on with the date!

I know the belt buckle came out here from Dublin. Same seller had as well this photo that he got from the house clearance



Royal Dublin Fusiliers had a mounted infantry company in South Africa. Can there be a linkage?!?!

Sadly no name or makers, etc on the picture frame.
