This appeared in my collection a while back I cant remember were or how I got it.
I am told 21st Hussar Officers used shoulder titles in there side caps.

Is this another fake I have nothing to go on ?

If not a fake has it any worth as I don't collect Hussar Items.

Thanks for any help Mac

Cool 21st Hussars

After a quick look online the 21st Hussars existed from 1862-1897, when they became Lancers.

This title looks modern to me.

In 1897 I would have exoected officers to be wearing pill box hats. Side caps were worn by the cavalry but they were slow to adopt them.

Could this be 21st King George's Own Horse. As the lugs look Indian.

Graham.

G'day Mac

According to RA Westlake the only shoulder title used by the 21Hussars was XX1 superimposed over a capitol H and they come in both brass and Silver, they then went to 21L, as we know.

Id say its not a genuine shoulder title.

Mate Im looking for a XX1 over H if you come across a spare.

Regards

Phil.

That was my overall impression, too, Graham. They do look reminiscent of Indian manufacture.

Best,

Marcus

It is indeed a shoulder title to the Central India Horse ( 21st King George V's Own Horse) - it's illustrated in Naths definitive work on the Indian Cavalry insignia. He writes the following on "your" badge " The authorised shoulder title C2.26.04 was issued to the Regiment by ordnance. Whether it was ever worn is not known, but in any case it would only have been worn for a short while ( sic pre 1924 ) - Tim
