Couldn't find the SSF band badge's photo in use except the one in the tan DEU's (badges not recognizable though). They used the crossed arrows for collar dogs as I remember. Here's a few pics of the 2CMBG band that took over from them after the name change.

The freaky part for me was that all the inf trade guys showed up with a study package about 200 pages thick. I was Inf qualified, but I spent my Tues & Thurs nights playing pipes, not doing infantry, so it was a bit daunting. I was able to help others with their drill, classroom, and field lessons, and they were able to help me with my recce and section atks . . . which is the way it's supposed to be. |

Don't always discount the black backed full sized wings as bogus...there are several private purchase bullion variations floating around, for wear on patrol dress.

The black backed wings are CF issue. That style was introduced about 1985 with the introduction of DEU; black backing so it could be worn on AF blue or navy blue (black) uniforms as well as army green/tan. The green backed wings are unification era. Embroidered wings with a white maple leaf are indicative of the DEU period as well, previously only wings with a red maple leaf were issued and a silver metal maple leaf was pinned thru the wing and tunic.
