8th & 7/9th Royal Scots

Gentlemen,
I wondered if the cap badges worn by the 8th & 7/9th Royal Scots (TA) during WWII were bi-metal as 1st & 2nd battalions or full white metal? Did these two TA regiments wear a badge backing or not? If so, which color was it?

I think that the TF practice of wearing all wm badges had stopped by WW2.

I can't help with the backing question.

Thanks a lot Alan! I was asking because at Tilly-sur-Seulles museum, there is a great tam o shanter with a bi metal cap badge withtout backing.

Following on from the above, when the plastic economy badges were issued during 2WW, did they go only to the 1st Bn, in view of the red backing in the centre? I am not aware of further colours being used, e.g green for the 2nd Bn. As it was, the 1st Bn were in Burma Campaign and at Kohima in particular.

No they were issued them irrespective of Bn. How the 2nd Bn got around the colour dilemma I don't know. I suspect they all bought metal ones!

G’day guys

I have a all silver chrome Royal Scots badge, standard size.

Now the lugs are slightly longer than a normal cap badge.

Could this be a TA badge or is it a Pipers cap badge or sporran badge or goes somewhere else?

The 7/9th Bn and 8th Bn Royal Scots did wear a tartan backing (Hunting Stewart) in the 1939-45 War. Maybe not a completely universal practice within the units, but still very commonly seen.
