428 LAA Bty RA Edinburgh (Queens Edinburgh Royal Scots)
Gentlemen,
at the back of a WW2 picture representing RA officers, I have the following dscription: officers of 428 LAA Bty RA Edinburgh (Queens Edinburgh Royal Scots). The picture is dated August 1944 and was taken in Hythe, Kent. My problem is that I can't find any trace of any 428 LAA Bty RA Edinburgh anywhere. Does anybody have info about that battery?? That would be of great help. Thank you very very much. Cheers Phil |

428 Bty was part of 130 LAA Regt RA (Queen's Edinburgh,The Royal Scots) TA.
This Regt previously had been 52 (Q's Edin,The RS) Search Light Regt RA (TA), and the 428 had been 531 SL BTY. On 1 Apr 1947 the Bty was redesignated 327 LAA Bty RA (TA) of the newly numbered 587 (Q's Edin, RS) LAA Tegt RA (TA). |

Thank you SO much for all these details!! It is very much appreciated!
Do you know if they wore any special badge proper to the battery or regiment on the BD blouse sleeves? Best regards, Phil |

According to Litchfield, in 1943 a regimental flash was adopted which was a silhouette of the Royal Scots cap badge (OR) in black cloth, to mark the RS connection and the old black uniforms of the Queen's Rifle Vol Brigade.
After 1947 the regimental flash of 567 LAA Regt RA (TA) was a black silhouette of a thistle head on a brown square, officially approved 9 Nov 51 and worn until 1955, when the regiment became part of 432 LAA Regt RA (TA), and the Q's Edin Bty became "P" Bty, keeping its old title (of P,Q,R, and S Btys in the new Regt). |

Thank you very very much!! Is there picture of the regimental flash in Litchfield's book? By the way, which book by Litchfield is it exactly? The Territorial Artillery 1908-1988?
Once again, thanks for the help provided!! Best regards Phil |

Yes, that is the book, and only the thistle head is illustrated (p.299); the outline history of the unit begins on the previous page, with the formation in 1940 of 52 Searchlight Regt RA (TA).

Attached is the photo mentioned, as well as a detail of the BSM Farquhar's sleeve.
