I would not have thought that it was a 'Bazar badge? - as it is as far as I know original to the beret it is on and would a Bazar badge be made of Silver?
I thought the whole idea of a bazar badge was it was a poor casting knock off in the cheapest of metals, where as the face of this badge is quite defined, but granted the rear is questionable but still silver. Could it have been back filled to give it more weight in order for it to be seating better on the beret? |

Could still be silver though locally made - pure conjecture but it could be that an officer needed such a badge and had one cast from an OR's collar badge or shoulder title device.

Thanks Herman - looks like a handsome silver version of the generic pattern. A badge I will look out for, but unfortunately it is often hard to tell whether a cast badge was made for service wear or not. Looking at the reverse I'd agree with Leigh that this could be a bazaar badge. The earliest use of the rifle green beret I know of is 1 Som LI in 1948, and 1 Oxf Bucks became First Greenjackets in 1958. If the badge is original to the beret it might have been obtained - or even commissioned - when 1 Oxf Bucks were in Suez 1951-3. But that is pure SWAG. |

Just remembered that I have this version. Note the long loops/lugs.

Perhaps I am showing another example of a proper badge for comparison?

I'd label it as a probable Oxf & Bucks LI Officer's private purchase beret with a private purchase locally made cast silver long lugged badge, from the 1950's prior to the introduction of the Green Jackets Brigade badge when the regiment became the1st of the 3 regiments of Green Jackets that became RGJ.

Leigh - was it only the officers that had that type of beret? |
