Large for No 1 Dress, Full Dress (usually in bullion embroidery), Great Coat and Frock Coats.
Medium for Service Dress and sometimes pullovers. Small for shirt epaulettes, mess dress and sometimes pullovers. Tim

Basically for different types of Uniform, large = Greatcoat, medium = Service Dress and small = Shirts and Tropical Dress, or anything else the General wants to wear them on.
