Default Queen's Lancaster Regiment cap badges

I have 2 models of QLR cap badge, one of these on a beret with primrose backing. I know the regiment was formed in 1970 and amalgamated in 2006. Why it had 2 badges ? Thank you

Laurent

The regt had a rebranding in about 2004 and adopted the enamel badge for ORs. it only lasted a couple of years before they amlgamated.

The first badge of the Queen's LANCASHIRE Regiment (QLR) had long been considered unattractive and after years of talk the decision was made to redesign it. The new badge bore some similarities with the former Lancastrian 'Brigade' badge that had been worn by the QLR, along with other regiments, between 1948 and 1968.

The left hand badge would have been worn with the primrose backing if it was being worn in the beret.

Hi

Please find attached a couple of pics of a couple of badges that I had gratefully received from an ACF Major who brought UK Cadets to Canada this past summer. He was formerly QLR.

The plastic one is marked "FIRMIN".

regards
Darrell

The badge is made of anodised aluminium, not plastic.

Hi Thomas

Thanks for that. I have little experience with such badges.

I know there are anodised Canadian badges but not so lightweight. I imagine fiscal economy is the reason for these.

regards
Darrell

The anodised badge with red rose was originally all gold as were the collar badges.
The Officers beret badge in cloth is the same as the collar badge.
Besides the badge changes, the s/t's were changed from "lancashires " to "queen's" over "lancashires"

That is how they came from Ordnance, the rose was then painted by the Pioneer Platoon, which accounts for the slightly different colours.

Ive noticed that, some are a maroon colour, others redder. Im pretty sure that the Loyals anodised badges and Lancastrian Brigade anodised badges were done the same way. But the very very scarce anodised with enamel 6th Hampshires (Duke of Connaughts) were done by the same company in Southsea that did the Officers enamelling. So they would have come from Ordanance all silver as well.

What cap badge did the 1st Bn Lancashire Regt (POW Vols) wear between 1968 and 1970; did they stay with the Lancastrian badge until they amalgamated with the Loyals?

It is believed to be the case yes. I dont recall seeing photographic evidence to prove this.
